World Powers Down for Earth Hour
Did you celebrate earth hour by turning off the lights? This event lasted from 8-9 pm tonight, with the purpose of raising awareness about climate change. Sydney, Australia was the pioneer of this day, starting the annual tradition in 2007 and creating a 10% drop in electricity use. 24 cities around the globe participated, with many iconic structures like the Sears Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge turning off their lights. What occurred in your local area?

We did… and I enjoyed using candles for light. Had a calming effect…
I’m afraid to say that this day went mostly unnoticed in Alaska. We don’t have the liberty of shutting off lights and other electric objects in the winter. This summer though, when we have 24 hour daylight, I don’t plan on using electric lights very much at all.
Turning off lights but then lighting a candle isn’t the point. The candle will give off CO2.
We turned out our lights and went for a walk around the neighbourhood. Next year, I think I will step it up and have some friends over to play some acoustic music, and invite the neighbours. Sit in the backyard and listen to music by the moonlight.
