Animation: SeaGen Tidal Power Turbine

Watch this excellent animation of how the new SeaGen project in Northern Ireland built by Marine Current Turbines will work. Transport of the units began a few weeks back and the installation of SeaGen should be completed shortly.

  1. That looks like it could actually be quite hazardous for sea life. What do you think?

  2. Clayton - It’s my understanding that the turbines actually cut through the water too slowly to threaten marine life. The developers have also funded a $3.75 million program with two universities to monitor the impact on marine inhabitants (particularly seals). I wrote a little about that issue at ecopolitology.

  5. The world needs to see more visuals like this one . It’s often very hard for people to envision what alternative energy looks like, as they have spent their entire life immersed in the world of combustion engine technology.
