Animation: SeaGen Tidal Power Turbine
Watch this excellent animation of how the new SeaGen project in Northern Ireland built by Marine Current Turbines will work. Transport of the units began a few weeks back and the installation of SeaGen should be completed shortly.





That looks like it could actually be quite hazardous for sea life. What do you think?
Clayton - It’s my understanding that the turbines actually cut through the water too slowly to threaten marine life. The developers have also funded a $3.75 million program with two universities to monitor the impact on marine inhabitants (particularly seals). I wrote a little about that issue at ecopolitology.
