I have used filter type water purification devices extensively. The main problem is that they get clogged. How will the destitute going to maintain the device and replace the filter?
This reminds me of the Nestle ™ debacle back in the 70’s. Nestle ™ sold powdered baby formula to 3rd world countries in Africa and other parts of the globe.
When Mothers mixed it with the impure water available the results were deadly to the infants who consumed it.
Maybe just educate the populace. Boiling water for 10 minutes will kill most anything.
I don’t think comparing LifeStraw to Nestle’s formula is fair. Nestle undermined women’s confidence that they could breastfeed their children. They already had the perfect, safe food for their children and didn’t need the formula. Once the free samples ran out, poor women diluted it further than you are supposed to to make it go farther, so babies did not get their nutritional needs met, beside the quality of water issue. These women couldn’t then switch to breastfeeding, as they never made milk from not nursing their newborns.
Many people in 3rd world countries do not have the energy to boil water for 10 minutes, but I think you are correct that their could be filter clogging issues.
C’mon Green Options. You guys can do better. This is an old story, and you’ve offered no new value, you’re just trolling for traffic!
Gobbler, it may have been an old story to you, but I just discovered it today on stumble upon.
So, I have yet to find this product for sale anywhere, but knock-offs are selling upwards of $100.00 each and not as simple. So, who is controlling this now… more importantly, who will be controlling water in the future….(can we say w…?)
